The state visit of General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping to Vietnam took place on April 14-15, at the invitation of General Secretary To Lam and President Luong Cuong.


This is the fourth state visit of Mr. Xi Jinping to Vietnam in his capacity as General Secretary and President of China, taking place less than a year after the state visit to China by General Secretary To Lam.


The leaders of the two sides are expected to discuss major measures, directions and orientations to promote bilateral relations in various fields. General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping will also participate in a number of other important foreign affairs activities.


Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son affirmed on April 12 that this is an important political and foreign event of the two Parties and two countries, with strategic significance and long-term impact on the development of Vietnam-China relations in the context that both countries are entering a new era, a new era of development, expressing his belief that the visit of the General Secretary and President of China will be a great success and become a "new milestone" in the relationship between the two countries.


Vietnamese Ambassador to China Pham Thanh Binh said that Vietnam will give the General Secretary and President of China "a special reception during his state visit".


China was the first country to establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam on January 18, 1950. The two countries established a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2008.


During Xi Jinping's state visit to Vietnam in December 2023, the two countries set out six major cooperation directions to continue deepening and enhancing the Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership, promoting the building of a Community of Shared Future of strategic significance.


In 2024, Vietnam will continue to be the largest trading partner in ASEAN and China's fourth largest trading partner in the world. Vietnam-China bilateral trade turnover in 2024 will reach 205.2 billion USD (up 19.3%). In the first three months of 2025, bilateral trade turnover between the two countries will reach 51.25 billion USD.
